George Brown Goode (1851-1896) was an influential American ichthyologist and museum administrator. Goode made significant contributions to the field of ichthyology through his extensive research on fish species, particularly those found along the eastern coast of North America. He published works such as "The Fisheries and Fishery Industries of the United States" in 1887, which helped establish him as a leading authority in fisheries science. Goode went on to serve as the first Assistant Secretary of the Smithsonian Institution from 1887 until his death in 1896, where he helped found the United States National Museum and shape its role as a premier natural history museum
